Buying Firewood In Bundles Can Be Cost Effective

Stop and say no to a pricey bundle of firewood found at the grocery store - here’s why.

You can buy bigger, better, and high-quality firewood in bundles at our firewood lot. The best part? We will even deliver it to your home.

While people used to buy firewood to burn indoors and in fireplaces, the times are changing fast. There are now new burn restrictions in Metro Halifax, some people do not even build wood-burning fireplaces in their homes.

With more of us getting used to fire pits, pizza ovens, and bonfires for recreation and relaxation, this means firewood season is all around the year. So why should you buy a costly firewood bundle at the grocery store when you can buy the same bundle for a fraction of the cost and have it delivered to your home?

The firewood in bundles in grocery stores is less than 1 cubic feet and the wood is typically made of softwoods. This wood burns very quickly which means if you’re having a bonfire, you’ll have to quickly add more wood. This produces more smoke too.

At Sam Firewood, our firewood bundles contain 1 cubic foot of the best locally sourced firewood species. All our wood is 100% hardwood sourced from Maple (85-90%), Birch, Ash, and Oak (10-15%).

You will love our firewood because it is not only easy to burn, but also has a nice aroma to it with very few sparks. Contact us today for a quote.

For the most aromatic fire, you need to dry the wood at least one summer season to make it fit for burning. But how do you effectively dry wood logs? Here are some tips from experts. Reduce The Moisture to 20% ● When you are drying firewood, you want to make sure that the moisture content of the wood is reduced to 20% before it can be burned. Wood is made up of tiny tubes of fiber where the water is locked within. When you freshly cut this log, it will contain moisture of around 30%. A log that has more than 20% moisture is hard to light and will likely give you a lot of trouble when burning it. So use a firewood moisture meter to check the wood throughout the summer to see how much moisture has been taken out of the wood. The Ideal Time to Dry Logs ● The ideal time to dry firewood logs is during the summer. Typically, at least one season of summer is required to dry the wood. However, there are certain types of hardwood that can take up to 2 years to dry properly. So the exact time you need to dry the wood depends on a variety of factors including the species of the wood you have on your hand. You also need to make sure that you do not over-dry the wood because if the water content completely disappears, it will not help in the combustion process. ● The higher the fuel moisture is in your wood, the slower it will break down. Do not Over Dry ● As mentioned above, wood that has been overdried can quickly burn away and will be less effective. In other words, the dryer the wood is, the more dense the smoke will be. Since wood smoke is considered fuel, the aim should be to burn is as complete as possible which means that you’ll have to mix an adequate amount of oxygen within the combustion process. This is only possible if some moisture is left in the wood. ● Drying firewood properly is especially necessary if you are using the wood for your stove. If you’re not careful, there will be smoke everywhere in your house. Furthermore, the smoke and the intense heat from overly dried wood can damage your stove and your chimney. Need Seasoned Firewood? ● If you’re looking for fully seasoned and dried firewood in the Metro Halifax region, then get in touch with Sam Firewood. We supply only the best locally sourced firewood.
