Firewood By The Cord

Burning wood for heat in a fireplace or on a stove is an extremely economical source of energy and can provide a cozy environment for your home. But buying firewood can be a daunting experience especially if you are not aware with how firewood is sold.

The official measurement of firewood is a ‘cord’, but it is a word that is misused in many different regions by firewood sellers. At Sam Firewood, we believe in providing you with accurate quantities of wood so that you get the best value out of the money you pay.

How Much is a Cord?

A full cord of firewood has a large amount of wood in it. It typically measures four feet high and four feet wide and eight feet long ( 4 x 4 x 8). A cord should have a volume of 128 cubic feet.

Sam Firewood ensures that you get the exact amount for what you paid for. This is why we measure the wood after it has been cut and split so that you always receive 128 cubic feet when the wood is stacked and 180 cu ft when loose.

We deliver the firewood in all of the Metro Halifax area. A pickup service is also available. The delivery fee is usually calculated based on the distance we have to travel from our woodlot to your location.

We supply only the best locally sourced firewood species. A cord of wood provided by us has 100% hardwood sourced from 85-90% Maple, 10-15% Birch, Ash and Oak trees. All of these species have high heat value and they are very easy to burn with no heavy smoke and very little sparks.
