Code of Ethics

The Registered Firewood Vendor agrees to:
Comply with the Misleading Advertisement sections of the Competition Act both in word and deed; Ensure that the net quantity (quantity delivered) is the same as the quantity offered for sale;
Use only legal units of measurement in business transactions (cord, cubic foot or cubic meter); Issue a written Statement of Quantity for each sale transaction that includes:
a. the net quantity (quantity delivered), using a legal unit of measurement;
b. vendor's name, address and phone number;
c. date and price;
d. HST number if applicable.
Respond expediently to customer complaints, make every effort to resolve them to the mutual satisfaction of both parties, refer unresolved complaints to Measurement Canada, and assist with any investigation that may result;
Not make false or malicious statements or publications that may injure the professional reputation of another listed vendor of the registry;
Have the business operating name listed with the Registry of Joint Stock Companies, unless the vendor is operating as an individual or partnership using only their name without a descriptive element (i.e. "Joe Smith" does not have to be listed, but "Joe Smith Firewood" has to be listed).

Section 52.(1) of the Competition Act

52. (1) No person shall, for the purpose of promoting, directly or indirectly, the supply or use of a product or for the purpose of promoting, directly or indirectly, any business interest, by any means whatever, knowingly or recklessly make a representation to the public that is false or misleading in a material respect.

Comments: "Material" means anything that is relevant to the consumer in order to influence his/her decision to purchase or not purchase the product.
An example of "material" information would be the "volume delivered" (i.e. advertising or verbally stating a price for a specific volume, but delivering a smaller quantity for the same price).
